We are located in the Hagerstown MD area the classrooms and range facilities are conveniently located approximately 10-12 minutes outside of Hagerstown (specific location details are available in each class listing). For the range portion we utilize an established gun range. If you’re coming from the DC or Baltimore area, we are about an hour’s drive or less on the weekend. The process starts by taking a 16-hour course that covers state firearm law, firearms safety, and handgun mechanisms & operations. Once you have completed your course you can begin the application process. We recommend that you start your application right after taking the course since you can go back to completed it. We recommend that you print your application and gather the necessary information before finalizing it in the system. Some of the information Maryland State Police includes list references, information regarding your spouse, employment information, and other details regarding your background. You will also need to get fingerprinted at a live scan eligible fingerprinting provider. Maryland Department Public Safety and Correctional Services maintains a list of providers to choose from. You will also need to get a digital passport photo. There are various apps that can be used to generate this photo. Once you have completed all of these steps you will be ready to apply for the wear and carry permit on the MSP Website. In our course we cover how to apply and will be more than happy to go over any questions you have. We also have a background that you can use for taking your passport photo.

We have designed our curriculum to meet the state mandated objectives but also have additional material that introduces our students to start thinking about conceal & carry practices, self-defense, and other concepts of carrying a firearm outside of your home. The course is usually broken up into two 8-hour days and we have some virtual offerings from time to time. The instructor, Benjamin Buss has been an instructor since 2016 and actively conceal & carries on a regular basis. He has held various conceal carry permits since 2015 and has received extensive firearms training during his time with the Maryland Department of Public Safety. He has obtained instructor certifications by the NRA and has taught Maryland Police & Correctional Training courses in an academy setting.
